Security is a serious matter. SecureCom Technologies provides excellence in security. Security is the line between networks, operating systems, applications, even physical areas; each with its own set of threats, risks, and problems. Security is an on-going search, detection, and transformation in the computer field. Both technology and the knowledge of technology itself advance at the speed of a user’s connection, both with pros and cons. Unlike the 1960s where limited individuals had restricted access to simple systems (often compared to a “glass fortress”), this power has been put into individuals’ desktops, which all imaginable and unimaginable problems have erupted and corrupted.
· Closed environment – where users are connected to mainframes (with no outside access) through dummy terminals with limited functionality, with little risk of security breaches or vulnerabilities being exposed · Layers – includes a computer’s hardware platform, chips (physical), operating system, network stacks, services, and applications · Information Warfare – governments using warfare tactics to only gather tactical information; organizations who steal or trade secrets and new products before they are released; and individuals who steal personal information, confidential numbers, identities of people and web sites, and cause destruction · Hacking Pro/Con – can be said that computing is continually coming up with better practices, products and procedures; but the growth in functionality is not a growth in security ·
Good Security – not just a firewall and antivirus software; it is
planned, regulated, and assigned in line with the company’s business goal
(Excellence.)
· Denial of service – causes your computer to crash or become so busy processing data that you can’t use it, including being involved in the same attack on another computer · Email spoofing – email sent from a different address than the one stated; to trick the user into forfeiting passwords and other sensitive personal information · Packet sniffing – capture of data as it travels over the network, such as names, passwords, and proprietary information · Backdoor (trapdoor) – undocumented way of entering a program, online service, or an entire computer system · Vulnerability – parts or all of the system that allows an intruder to take over an individuals computer; increases risk of undesirable behavior in an individual’s computer · Risk – possibility of loss; probability or consequence |
